Cooperatives See the Future!

Co-op Month Tailgating2019
SRT celebrated the Co-Op Month theme “Cooperatives See the Future” by delivering gift baskets to some very special customers. Sixty-one years ago, these members saw the future of telecommunications and supported our mission. It was a pleasure to visit with some of our earliest cooperative customers. We also attended sporting events, provided dinners at various community centers, and gave away even more prizes to members throughout the month. The future of our cooperative will be to continue our mission: provide competitively priced, high quality communications services. We will continue to invest in our fiber optic network and provide state-of-the-art telecommunications services to our members.

SAVE THE DATE / SRT ANNUAL MEETING

Procedure for the Nomination of Directors

The purpose of the SRT Annual Meeting is to elect directors to the Board of Directors and hold a business meeting of the cooperative.
Directors are elected to serve a three-year term. SRT’s twelve-member Board of Directors represent our service area throughout the year by attending monthly board meetings, serving on state associations, attending community events, and representing SRT on national telecommunications issues. Beginning April 22, 2019, the following steps must be taken if you are interested in becoming a candidate for election as an SRT director.

Procedure Steps:

1. A Nomination of Directors Petition Form, indicating the director district must be obtained from SRT Headquarters (principal office of the Cooperative) located at 3615 North Broadway in Minot.

2. Fifteen (15) or more members from the same district from which the nomination is being made must sign the written petition.  Important Note:  A husband and wife constitute one membership.  Either spouse may sign this petition as a member.  However, the signature of a husband and wife on this petition may only be counted as one of the fifteen (15) members necessary to nominate a director.

3. All nominations by petition must be received at SRT Headquarters located at 3615 North Broadway in Minot no earlier than
April 22, 2019 nor later than May 17, 2019 by 5:00 PM. Petitions postmarked before May 17, 2019 but arriving by mail after
May 17, 2019 cannot be accepted.

4. All nominations by petition are subject to verification of membership of signatories.  Once verification is complete, the candidate will be notified and their name will appear on the
ballot at SRT’s Annual membership Meeting.  Nominations for director candidates will not be accepted from the floor at the annual meeting.

SRT Offers $40,000 in Scholarship Opportunities

Minot, ND – The 2019 SRT College Scholarship Program applications are available. With five local scholarships awarded, a total of $8,500 will be given to students in 2019. In addition to SRT’s opportunities, SRT partners with the Foundation for Rural Service to offer national scholarships.

Four winners will be selected to each receive a $1,500 SRT general scholarship. The SRT scholarship program highlights community involvement. However, applicants are also judged on school activities, an essay response, and GPA.

The SRT Technical Scholarship will award $2,500 to one student. This scholarship is open to graduating high school seniors or undergraduate students studying telecommunications or other computer technology related fields.

SRT is also proud to partner as a member of the Foundation for Rural Service (FRS) to participate in a national scholarship program that could provide local students with scholarships. Students submitting an FRS application are eligible for multiple national scholarship opportunities.

“Last Spring, SRT increased the scholarship dollars awarded to students. Our board of directors felt it was important to assist students working to further their education,” said SRT CEO/General Manager Steve Lysne. “In addition to our local dollars given out, two students from our area were both awarded a national scholarship through FRS. Those two were chosen from 1,400 applicants from across the country, so we strongly encourage students to apply for all our scholarship opportunities.”

Applications are available at area schools, SRT offices, and online srt.com/srtcares.  Applications for FRS Scholarships are due February 22nd, and SRT Scholarship applications are due March 1st. Scholarship recipients will be announced in April and an awards lunch will be held for the winners.

SRT Communications located in Minot, North Dakota is the state’s largest telecommunications cooperative. SRT services include Internet, Security, TV, Phone and Business Services and has served north central North Dakota since 1951, employs more than 200 people, and serves over 40,000 customers.
