SRT Communications Systems Technician Receives Minot Chamber EDC Eagle Award

News_CTeagleaward640x320

SRT Communications Systems Technician Charlie Theobald received Minot Chamber EDC‘s Eagle Award this month. The Eagle Award recognizes excellence in customer service and the recipients must be nominated to receive this award.

Charlie was nominated by a SRT Business customer who said, “We were having issues with our phone lines and Xerox machine. We called our IT department, and they said it was on the SRT side. We called SRT they sent out a technician right away. Charlie introduced himself and troubleshooted everything he could, yet our phones were still not working. He spent over an hour with our IT department on the phone trying to solve our issues and nothing. Charlie did not give up. He was determined to find the problem. After running several diagnostic checks, he found that it was a booster in our conference room that had failed thus causing our entire phone system to shut down. It would have been so easy for Charlie to just say, ‘this is not our problem,’ and leave but he obviously cares about the task at hand. It is not very often that you run into someone like Charlie that will go above and beyond what is expected of them to see that the customer is taken care of, and everything is running properly prior to closing the call. Thank you, Charlie, we appreciate you!”

Congratulations Charlie for this well-deserved recognition, and thank you for taking great care of our customers!

Minot, N.D. –SRT presented a ceremonial check to the Magic City Discovery Center in honor of its 2021 $100,000 pledge to the area’s first discovery center.

SRT also designed and configured the building’s Wi-Fi and Gig Internet network system to fit the Magic City Discovery Center’s needs. Crews then installed several Wi-Fi access points. The in-kind labor, equipment, and maintenance work are valued at $50,000.

Karen Rasmusson, Board President for the Magic City Discovery Center, said, “We are so thankful for SRT’s contribution! Our Community Rooms will be the location where kids can’t wait to have their birthday party. Businesses and service clubs will look forward to special meetings with the best view in Minot and state-of-the-art technology.”

The Magic City Discovery Center has been an engaging and educational piece of the community since 2014, teaching young people the fun possibilities of science, technology, engineering, arts, and math. The STEAM-focused education center has now planted its roots on Minot’s North Hill, serving as a destination for play, learning, and inspiration.

“The Magic City Discovery Center is not only a great place for families to have fun,” said SRT CEO/General Manager Cassidy Hjelmstad. “It’s also an opportunity for kids to discover STEAM in a unique way. This beautiful science center stands as a testament to the importance of educational adventure.”

Kristi Miller, SRT Board President, added, “SRT is proud to support STEAM education for the bright young minds in our region.”

Construction on the brand-new facility began in May 2021. It features 12 galleries and more than 150 interactive exhibits, and is expected to open in the spring.

February Tech Tip: Battery Saving Tips

Techtip_batterysavingtimps

There is nothing worse than grabbing your phone and seeing 10% remaining on the battery when there is no charger in sight. Here are a few battery-saving tips to get you through in a pinch:

  1. Turn the screen brightness down.
  2. Turn off apps running in the background.
  3. Turn off location services, Bluetooth, and wi-fi if you aren’t using them.
  4. Turn on low-power mode.
  5. Turn off notifications temporarily.
  6. In a serious pinch, turn on airplane mode.

Some general tips to prolong the life of your phone’s battery include:

  1. Check battery usage in settings to see which apps are using excess battery.
  2. Avoid full and overnight charging. Charging to 90% and not leaving your phone charging all through the night can preserve the life of your phone’s battery.
  3. Keeping the battery between 20% and 90% is a general rule of thumb for maintaining a battery’s life.
  4. Turn your phone off when it is charging.
